Tuition-Free Online Elementary School in Michigan
Every child learns differently, and not every child thrives in a traditional classroom. Michigan Online School provides an accredited, tuition-free online elementary program for K–5 students that brings certified teachers, structured live instruction, and personalized learning tools together in one platform. If your family is looking for a public school experience that meets your child where they are, our online elementary program is enrolling now.

How Online Elementary School Works
Daily Structure with Customization Built In
Throughout the week, elementary students join their classmates and teacher for live lessons covering key concepts in all subjects. These sessions are mandatory, and both attendance and engagement are graded. If your child is unable to attend, it is important to notify the teacher in advance as any assigned work from a missed session still needs to be completed.Certified Teachers and Real-Time Instruction
Beyond live sessions, teachers set aside dedicated time for small group instruction where a few students work together on specific skills with their teacher. Students also participate in required 1:1 sessions tailored to their grade level, individual abilities, and areas of need. These sessions are scheduled based on what each student needs most.Engaging and Age-Appropriate Digital Tools
All curriculum materials are accessible through the student’s online portal, making it easy for families to stay organized. Parents can monitor their child’s coursework, track progress, and stay connected to what is happening in the classroom at any time.
Benefits of Online Elementary School Programs
Safe, Bully-Free Learning Environment
When students feel secure, they are free to take academic risks and grow. Our online setting removes the social pressures, bullying, and distractions that can hold young learners back in a brick-and-mortar school, giving your child the space to concentrate on what matters.Adaptable Scheduling to Fit Family Life
Between medical appointments, extracurricular activities, and family commitments, rigid school hours do not always work. Our program provides the opportunity to manage daily life without sacrificing your child’s academic progress.Personalized Pace for Every Learner
Not every student moves through material at the same speed. Michigan Online School tracks each child’s academic data throughout the year to make sure he or she is building proficiency in essential skills by year’s end, adjusting instruction and support along the way.
Award-Winning Online Elementary School Curriculums
Michigan Online School delivers a comprehensive K–5 curriculum aligned with the state of Michigan’s academic standards. Core instruction covers reading and language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, with teachers guiding students through foundational concepts during live sessions and through the online portal. The goal is to build strong skills in literacy and numeracy while keeping young learners curious and engaged.
Online Elementary School: Grades K-5
Curriculum Providers
Our school uses high-quality, research-based curriculum and intervention programs to ensure all students receive strong instruction and targeted support.
For grades K–5, instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies is delivered through the AMP Proprietary Curriculum. The English Language Arts component of this curriculum is based on Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), a knowledge-building, phonics-based literacy program aligned to the Science of Reading.
To support students who need additional academic assistance, we use a multi-tiered system of supports:
- MindPlay is utilized to provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention support, particularly in foundational reading skills.
- UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) is used as a Tier 3 literacy intervention for students receiving intensive reading support from their general education teacher.
These programs work together to ensure students receive both strong core instruction and the targeted interventions needed to accelerate learning and close skill gaps.
Testing
All Kindergarten students will complete a universal screener through MindPlay. MindPlay is an Orton-Gillingham based program. The MindPlay universal screening tool provides educators & families with reliable, actionable insights to ensure students can master essential reading skills. Click Here to learn more about MindPlay.
Diagnostic Assessments with i-Ready – All K–5 students complete the i-Ready diagnostic assessment in fall, winter, and spring. This adaptive tool evaluates each child in reading and mathematics, adjusting its questions based on their responses to pinpoint exactly where they are academically. Teachers use this data to personalize instruction and monitor growth across the entire school year.
State Testing (M-STEP, PSAT, SAT, and WIN) – Once each year, all Michigan students participate in the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress. The M-STEP is administered in a face-to-face setting as required by the state, and it measures student progress against Michigan’s content standards and college- and career-readiness goals.
Field Trips
Students will be invited to a variety of virtual field trips throughout the school year. Michigan Online School aligns virtual field trips with learning topics.
Teacher and Peer Interaction
Choosing an online school does not mean choosing isolation. Students at Michigan Online School interact with their teacher and classmates during live sessions each week, building relationships and developing communication skills in a virtual setting. Throughout the year, students are also invited to participate in virtual and in-person field trips aligned with their learning topics, adding variety and real-world context to the curriculum
Parental Involvement and Support
Parental involvement is a key part of the elementary experience at Michigan Online School. As a parent or caregiver, you help your child stay on track with daily lessons, support good study habits, and communicate with teachers when questions arise. The online portal gives you visibility into your child’s assignments and progress, and teachers provide regular updates so you are never guessing about how your student is doing. Our support team is also available to help you navigate the program and address any concerns along the way.
Ensuring Student Success
From Struggling to Thriving
For children who have struggled in a traditional classroom, online learning can be a turning point. With targeted instruction, consistent teacher attention, and a pace that fits their needs, students often discover a confidence they did not have before.Support Systems That Make a Difference
Teachers monitor academic progress continuously using tools like i-Ready diagnostics and ongoing classroom assessments. If a student begins to fall behind, the response is immediate — whether that means additional small group time, adjusted 1:1 sessions, or direct communication with the family to build a plan together.
